Broken Shift (SCHADS Clause 25.6)

Definition: A shift divided into up to two parts within a single day (with an unpaid gap in between) within a maximum spread of 12 hours.

Regulatory Impact & Compliance Overview

Under SCHADS Award clause 25.6, employers must pay an agreed broken shift allowance for each broken shift. If the shift spread exceeds 12 hours (up to 16 hours), a higher allowance applies, and all hours worked beyond 12 hours must be paid at double-time overtime rates.

Governing Authority

Enforced by Fair Work Commission (FWC) in Australia. Compliance with these standards is legally required for all licensed and participating care providers.

How AsanWork Enforces Broken Shift (SCHADS Clause 25.6)

AsanWork builds compliance directly into daily scheduling workflows. Hard compliance stops prevent un-vetted, un-screened, or non-credentialed staff from receiving shift allocations, ensuring 100% audit readiness.
